Howard Barrell

Howard Barrell teaches journalism and aspects of insurgency at Cardiff University. He is an academic advisor to the Washington-based International Centre on Nonviolent Conflict. He worked for the ANC in the domestic underground and from exile during the struggle against apartheid in South Africa in the 1980s. His D.Phil. thesis at Oxford University examined ANC operational strategy. He is a former editor of the Mail & Guardian, South Africa.
